Philadelpho Menezes was born in 1960 in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. He published his first book of poems, "4 achados construídos" (four found and built) in 1980. His next books were: "Poemas 1980-1982" ("Poems 1980-1982") (1984), and "Demolições (ou poemas aritméticos)" [Demolitions (or arithmetic poems)], in 1988. He also wrote the theory book "Poetry and Visualization: Contemporary Brazilian Poetry" (1991), and organized "Sonorous Poetry: Experimental Poetry of the Voice of the 20th Century" (1992). Among other shows, he organized "Inter-Sign Poetry" (1985) and the "International Show of Visual Poetry of São Paulo" (1988). He was a professor in the Communication and Semiology post-graduation program at the Pontifical University of São Paulo and performed research for his post-graduate degree at the University of Bologna, in Italy (1990). His doctorate thesis was published under the title "The Crises of the Past: Modernity, Post-Modernity, Meta-Modernity." Philadelpho Menezes died in 2000 in a car accident.
