Falves
Silva makes bookcovers, is an illustrator and visual programmer (newspapers,
books and billboards), who does not get along with academic institutions. He
was born in 1943 in Cacimba de Dentro, State of Paraíba. In 1953 he moved
to Natal where at age 15, he began working as a printer (experience that was
later useful in enabling him to publish several experimental books). In 1964
he took a correspondence course in drafting and in 1966 had his first individual
show. He became a part of the Poem/Process movement in 1967, and in 1974 he
joins the international movement of Mail-Art, which allowed him to show his
work internationally. Silva has participated in more than 400 collective shows
and about 85 individual shows. He has not received any awards from academic
art shows, but his work has been anthologized in a long list of books, among
them: "Processo Linguagem e Comunicação" by Wlademir
Dias Pino, "O poema e a Poesia do Rio Grande do Norte" by Moacy Cirne,
"Geração Alternativa" by J. Medeiros, etc.
