1
- What does Visual Poetry mean to you?
The images in visual poetry make total immersion in the universe of perception,
creation and expression more possible.
2
- Who were and/or are your sources of inspiration, your models (either poets
or artistic movements) in this artistic medium?
I was most influenced by the European avant-garde: by Stéphane Mallarmé
and Tristan Tzara, to be precise. In Brazil, I belong to the neo-concretist
school of Ferreira Gullar.
3
- Why did you choose to create, or why do you enjoy creating, Visual Poetry
as one of your artistic expressions?
"A Throw of the Dice" by the poet, Mallarmé. This was the
poem that awoke in me the desire to produce visual poetry.
4
- When did you first adopt Visual Poetry as a mode of expression?
In 1975, while concerned about the infant mortality rate in Brazil, I composed
my first visual poem, "Crianças do Brasil" (Children of Brazil).
I constructed a map of Brazil with baby diapers. It came out a reddish color.
