1
- What does Visual Poetry mean to you?
A poetical exercise in order to exceed image and to establish a new meaning
for words.
2
- Who were and/or are your sources of inspiration, your models (either poets
or artistic movements) in this artistic medium?
When I started to experiment with visual poetry in the mid 1970's, I did not
even realize what it was. For that reason, I had nobody to inspire me. It
was just a very strong need to express myself in order not to be suffocated
by the ignorance of the environment that surrounded me, and also due to the
lack of material resources.
3
- Why did you choose to create, or why do you enjoy creating, Visual Poetry
as one of your artistic expressions?
All I wanted was to transgress reality and to question the Press, which manipulated
information at that time. That is why I used magazines and newspapers.
4
- When did you first adopt Visual Poetry as a mode of expression?
During 1973 and 1974, when the Brazilian military dictatorship reached its
climax, I used visual poetry to react to repression, as well as to combat
the fear of losing awareness.
