In addition to being a poet, Almandrade is also a plastic artist, architect and a master in urban design. He participated in several collective shows, including: the XII, XIII, and XVI Biennials of São Paulo; "Em Busca da Essência" (In Search of Essence), a special show for the 19th Biennial of São Paulo; 4th National Show; Soccer Universe (Museums of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro); National Fair (São Paulo); 2nd Paulista (Show of State of São Paulo), First International Show of Ephemeral Sculptures (Fortaleza, State of Ceará); First Baiano Show; 2nd National Show; and honorable mention in the First Student Show in 1972. He was one of the creators of the Group of Studies of Languages of Bahia, which edited the magazine "Semiology" in 1974. He performed about 20 individual shows in Salvador, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and São Paulo between 1975 and 1997. Almandrade wrote for several specialty newspapers and magazines about art and architecture. He received awards from the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia in 1981/82, and from the Fundarte in the XXXIX Show of Arts of Pernambuco in 1986. He edited the following booklets of poetry and visual works: "O Sacrifício do Sentido" (The Sacrifice of the Senses), "Obscuridades do Riso" (Obscurities of the Laughter), "Poemas" (Poems), "Suor Noturno" (Night Sweat) and "Arquitetura de Algodão" (Architecture of Cotton). He received the award Copene of Culture and Art in 1997.
